Coverage

Six ways to protect the people who count on you.

Every option below has real strengths and real limits. We list both so you can make the call with your eyes open.

T

Term Life

Coverage for a set period, often 10 to 30 years. Usually the lowest cost for the most coverage while your family depends on your income.

Often a fit if

  • You have kids at home or a mortgage
  • You want the biggest benefit per dollar

Keep in mind

  • Coverage ends when the term ends
  • No cash value

W

Whole Life

Permanent coverage designed to last your whole life, usually with a level premium and a cash value that builds under the terms of the contract.

Often a fit if

  • You want coverage that doesn't expire
  • You prefer a fixed, predictable premium

Keep in mind

  • Costs more than term for the same benefit
  • Cash value builds slowly in early years

F

Final Expense

A smaller permanent policy meant to cover funeral costs, medical bills, and other end-of-life expenses so they don't land on your family.

Often a fit if

  • You're roughly 50 to 85
  • You want simple underwriting

Keep in mind

  • Benefit amounts are modest
  • Some plans have a waiting period

I

Indexed Universal Life (IUL)

Permanent coverage with a cash value component whose growth is linked to a market index, subject to caps, floors, and policy charges.

Often a fit if

  • You want lifelong coverage
  • You can fund it steadily for years

Keep in mind

  • Costs more than term
  • Cash value isn't guaranteed and depends on funding and fees
Learn about IUL →
M

Mortgage Protection

Life coverage sized around your mortgage, so your family has money to keep the house if you pass away. Some plans add living-benefit riders.

Often a fit if

  • You recently bought or refinanced
  • The house is your family's biggest asset

Keep in mind

  • Riders vary by carrier and state
  • Compare it with plain term before you buy

A

Annuities

An insurance contract that can turn savings into a stream of income, often for retirement. Fixed, indexed, and income annuities work differently.

Often a fit if

  • You're planning for retirement income
  • You have savings you won't need for years

Keep in mind

  • Surrender charges can apply to early withdrawals
  • Features, fees, and terms vary by contract

Why Emerson

An agency that works for you, not for one insurer.

We get paid by the carrier you choose, never by you, and we're not locked into any one company. That keeps our advice honest.

1

We shop, you compare

We run your details against multiple carriers and show you the options that make sense, not just the first one.

2

A real person, start to finish

You work with one licensed agent on our team from the first call through approval, and after.

3

Straight talk on trade-offs

If a cheaper or simpler policy fits better, we'll say so. You decide on your own timeline.

How it works

Three steps from question to coverage.

Most people are done with the first conversation in under an hour.

01

Tell us what matters

Fill out the short quote form or book a call. We'll ask about your family, budget, and goals.

02

We compare carriers

Your agent checks options from multiple insurers based on your age, health, and state, then walks you through the best few.

03

You choose, we handle the rest

Pick the plan you like. We help with the application and keep you updated through underwriting.

Coverage guide

Not sure where to start?

Answer four quick questions. No name or phone number needed. You'll get a starting point you can talk over with an agent.

1. How long do you want coverage to last?
2. What's most important to you?
3. What's your age range?
4. What monthly budget feels comfortable?

This guide is for education only. It isn't financial, tax, or legal advice, and it isn't a recommendation of any specific policy. Your agent will review your full situation.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much will life insurance cost me?

Price depends on your age, health, tobacco use, how much coverage you want, how long you want it, and the type of policy. The quickest way to know is to get real quotes from several carriers, which we do for free.

Will I need a medical exam?

Not always. Many carriers offer policies that use a health questionnaire and database checks instead of an exam. Whether you qualify depends on your age, health, and the coverage amount. Approval and pricing depend on your answers to health questions and the carrier's underwriting.

How long does it take to get covered?

Some policies can be approved within days of applying. Others, especially larger amounts, can take a few weeks if the carrier asks for medical records or an exam. We'll tell you what to expect up front.

Do you charge a fee?

No. We're paid a commission by the insurance company you choose. You pay your premium to the carrier and nothing to us.

Which states do you serve?

Our agents are licensed in multiple states and we're adding more. Tell us your state in the quote form and we'll confirm a licensed agent can help you.

Which insurance companies do you work with?

We work with a range of life insurance carriers. Which ones are available to you depends on your state, the product, and underwriting. We'll name the carrier on every quote we show you.

Is my information safe?

Your information is used only to prepare your quote and contact you. We don't sell it to lead buyers or other agencies.
